ObamaCare

Much has been written about the drawbacks to The Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare. An article in the February, 2014 issue of Minnesota Monthly caught my eye. The article talks about salaries in Minnesota and there is mention of the wage gap between the average working Minnesota mail and the average working Minnesota female. Contained within that article was a short paragraph noting that the highest-paid female in Minnesota is a woman who is an executive vice president of United Health Group. United Health Group is a health insurance company that made headlines about a decade ago when they paid their CEO a $100 million bonus for one year. This most recent article noted that the Executive Vice President in question "earned" $20.7 million in 2012.

THAT'S $20.7 MILLION IN ONE YEAR! For one person.

And she's not even the president or CEO!

How many sick people could have their medical bills covered for $20.7 million? How many families could avoid bankruptcy if they had access to some of that $20.7 million to pay unexpected and catastrophic medical bills?

ObamaCare is a start at bringing healthcare costs down, but it won't work nearly as well as would a single payer system

Is it any wonder that the cost of healthcare keeps going up? Maybe if we took healthcare out of the hands of insurance companies and their fatcat executives the prices would go down?

Something to think about.
